Txana Txanu - Huni Kuin

Bringing the Jungle to the u.s

Txana Txanu Huni Kuin is a young Indigenous leader from the Huni Kuin territory along the Breu River in the Marechal Thaumaturgo region of Acre, Brazil. He began working with sacred medicines at just eight years old and, by fifteen, had dedicated his life to preserving and sharing the spiritual traditions of his people throughout Brazil. For more than eight years, Txana Txanu has studied alongside his uncles and fellow students under the guidance of 85-year-old spiritual elder Nai Beiya Isaka, learning the deep wisdom of the Huni Kuin way. At twenty-three, he continues this path as part of the Project for Strengthening Huni Kuin Culture, based at the Mae Kapa Yuxibu Ramini Center for Indigenous Cultures near Sena Madureira.

From Txana Txanu

”There's a saying my grandfather told me when I was young and starting my studies: ‘A human being can grow old as much as they want, but they never learn everything, because every day, every moment, every hour, every second we are learning something different; it's up to us to carry these good things forward."

In addition to his work within the community, Txana Txanu travels independently across Brazil, sharing his people’s ancestral knowledge and expanding the reach of forest medicine. He is part of a collective devoted to preserving the sacred teachings and the harmony between humanity and nature that the Huni Kuin hold dear. One of his most meaningful contributions is organizing the celebration of Nai Beiya Isaka’s anniversary—an annual gathering that honors their elder, strengthens community bonds, and ensures the living continuity of Huni Kuin culture and spirituality.
